OST562: What’s Cooking in Ostomy Skin Barrier Formulations

PURPOSE OF ACTIVITY:

 

Discuss the function, evolution, and formulation of ostomy skin barriers and apply that knowledge to appropriate ostomy barrier selection in clinical practice to maintain peristomal skin health.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Selection of an appropriate ostomy skin barrier formulation is an important concept for the ostomy care nurse/provider to learn more about to maintain peristomal skin health for individuals with ostomies. Using a cooking analogy, the function, evolution, and ingredients in modern day ostomy skin barriers will be discussed.
