Ostomy Care Nurse Specialist Course OST581

PURPOSE OF ACTIVITY:

 

The purpose of this Activity is to:

1.  Provide educational experiences to prepare the bachelor’s prepared nurse (and beyond) to practice Ostomy Care as a Nurse Specialist at an entry level in all care settings.

2.  Provide access to a curriculum delivered by experienced online educators who are also Board Certified as Ostomy Care Nurse Specialists.

3.  Increase the number of Ostomy Care Nurse Specialists providing specialty care across the health care settings.

4.  Provide patients with evidence-based ostomy care.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

This course focuses on the care of the client across the lifespan who has an ostomy or continent diversion.  Specifically, the learner will gain knowledge of the diseases or conditions that may result in an ostomy or continent diversion, assessment and perioperative management of these patients. Emphasis is placed on complications of the stoma and skin, risk assessment, prevention, identification and management. Best practice is frequently the level of research in this field of study.  That knowledge will be presented in order to improve the nurse’s knowledge and client outcomes.
